A moving tale…

So I moved house recently and that made it a bit difficult to paint anything, mainly because I'd packed all my art stuff. Oh, and the added inconvenience of basically everything involved in moving house including those weird periods of confusing limbo where nothing happens, fraught periods where everything happens, all with a fairly unhealthy dose of extreme frustration mixed in. But hey - it's all good and the paints are back out. I am taking up the monthly art group challenges again; la...

And now for something completely different…

So I've been trying out some new things recently as well as returning to some favourite themes. I am also preparing to launch an Etsy shop so have been building up some stock and preparing photographs - more on that when there's news. This painting is featured in the Acrylics section and this is a new style of painting for me which I really like. I have some more ideas so when I have time, I will hopefully be adding a few more like this. I have also done my first proper palette knif...

It’s been a while…

...since I put something in News but I have been busy doing paintings and reading loads of books and doing boring stuff like working fulltime, how ghastly. I am doing monthly challenges set by my local art group and also by my daughter; some of these are now on the website so check out the Acrylics section and Misc Media. I've also been creating some cartoons based on my cats who are delightful and revolting in equal measure; these are currently on Instagram (mellyhendy_art) along with a bu...

Come With Me Now

Coz I'm on a mission to get stuff finished. And started. But mainly finished. I think there are currently fifteen paintings on my list to do and that doesn't include a growing list of illustrations for a story entirely written as poetry which I've been working on (on and off) since I was sixteen, so it's only taken me 573 years to not finish it. Certainly feels like it. There are so many projects I want to work on and I keep getting distracted by things like ad hoc art challenges, a...

Go With The Flow

A Basic Guide to doing cheap acrylic flow Refusing to be thwarted by acrylic flow, I decided to do my own thing and not worry about trying to replicate what more experienced people have achieved.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m in awe of the amazing pictures that have been created by those who know what they’re doing and have all the right products, but I didn’t want to spend a lot on paints and flow mediums and the equipment with which to create flow paintings, but that’s coz I’m a bit of a ti...

Latest Stuff

I've been a busy little bee painting delicious things like these: Lots of new paintings have been added to the website including more monthly challenges from the local art group and a fabulous one on Instagram! I've also been trying out lots of new styles including acrylic flow. I will be doing a separate post about that with tips for anyone who wants to have a go at this without spending a lot of money, When I'm not pouring paint all over the place - including a depressing acciden...

Fan-art, Flamenco, Felines and Fairy-tales

Been very busy working on lots of projects which I've been posting on Instagram (@mellyhendy_art) but have finally now updated this website. Two more lyrics paintings have been completed - check out the Acrylics section to see the latest ones. I am considering an idea for the next one but it will be a challenge so might be a while before it appears. A couple more months have passed since I last updated this and I am still doing the monthly painting challenges set by my local art grou...

Something New…

I lined up lots of new projects for this year and am amazed to report that not only am I sticking to the plan, but they're all going fairly well. In addition to the theme I started towards the end of last year of painting song lyrics (see previous post), I wanted to try out new things and started experimenting with acrylic flow - see my Instagram posts for pictures. I've done a couple more since these and am still altering my method each time as it's really fun to try different ways of gett...

Song Illustration – I’m Only Joking (Kongos)

I'm Only Joking - acrylic on acrylic paper (A3). Actually, I'm properly serious. This awesome song is the first in my series of lyric paintings for tracks I absolutely love. On the album 'Lunatic', this is a powerhouse performance from Kongos with an addictive drumline underlining sublime musicality and iconic soaring vocals. And some cool lyrics.

What’s new, Pussycat?

Tiger Acrylic on canvas board, 50.5cm x 40cm. Painted for art group monthly challenge on theme of 'Wildlife' but a good excuse to make a point at the same time. I also created an image of a dragonfly (see in Miscellaneous) using watercolour, fine-liner and crayon which was fun. The latest addition in the watercolours section is The Singing Cherry Pie. Don't ask. It's been in my head for months and I'm glad it's finally out, looking pretty much how it's meant to. Right now, I am...
