Cakes, Tits, Fudge, Beaches

And that is how I spend my weekend 😊

So I’m painting every chance I get at the moment coz I have a bazillion ideas for things to paint.  I’ve done a few more cupcakes to make them a series – you can check these out in the Acrylics section.

I’ve been inspired by the local art group to try different techniques and painting subjects I wouldn’t normally choose.  I really loved looking at work by artist Rob Walker, whose vibrant art perfectly captures rural life and nature (and many other things) with a free and loose approach. I’ve tried to adapt that philosophy and try something new with the birds series.  This is not how I am used to painting at all but I’ve really enjoyed experimenting with this technique and it’s making me a much more confident painter.  I’m sketching in biro (mad!) and getting the paint down quicker, without thinking too much about it.

Check out the Watercolour section to see my series of garden birds, which includes a Willow Warbler and some charming Tits. Like this one.

Done a bit more on the York painting and finished the Fudge Kitchen as well as the view from City Screen, which is worth a visit just for the excellent food and superb views.  You can follow the progress of this painting in previous News posts.

I’m working on a couple of other projects in acrylics – a seascape which I am copying from a post on an Instagram account I follow, and the other is from a photograph taken by a friend of a moody landscape.  I’m photographing them in stages and trying to paint the sky using better techniques.  I follow a lot of arty people on Instagram and I’m learning a lot from their posts.

I’ve also started my next two pieces for the art group challenges and have two more quirky paintings on my To Do list which spawned in the ‘Don’t Even Ask…’ bit of my brain.  They will be fun to paint but aren’t a priority – watch this space…
